Legs and Feet

These are the images that started my ongoing series on “People Walking”; these photos belong to a subset focusing on legs and feet. These are somewhat long exposures shot at night at various busy street corners in New York City. The vantage point is low; I am sitting on the ground with a small tripod and rapidly capturing people as they walk by.

An interesting aspect of these images is that the exposure time (usually 1/15 of a second) often captures one foot in sharpness and the other totally blurred. Multiple people walking together might seem to be a single person with mis-matched feet. A person might seem to only possess only leg. The swirl of fabric might create a dynamic abstraction. They express motion and the energy that is found in a big city like New York.
