This was my first exhibited print, which was accepted into Soho Photo Gallery’s annual national photography competition exactly 20 years ago!

Interesting note: When I submitted to the competition I submitted slides I took of contact prints… as at that point I had not yet made my first print (well since college anyway). And I was accepted.

The print I ultimately made for the exhibition was this gelatin-silver print done using an 8×10 enlarger.

This was amongst my first overlapping exposure Holga pictures, a Times Square image shot for a four-week class at the New School (where I was first introduced to the Holga).

I will be exhibiting 2 pieces from my New York Walking series: “Shot at various busy street corners in New York City, I like to record the swirl of activity around me. The vantage point is low; I am often sitting on the ground with a small tripod and rapidly capturing people as they walk by.”

This will be a gallery-wide group show of New York City images, celebrating Soho Photo Gallery’s 50th anniversary.

Show Statement: “This exhibit examines the impact of the present political environment where the arts, the environment, immigrants and health care are under attack and threatened with extinction by the present federal administration.”

This exhibit is work of artists who live and/or work in the Lower East Side.
